An exciting year inter spaced with important developments
The year 2018 marks the completion of a decade for Sri City,one of the best operational and fast growing integrated business cities in the country.It had witnessed an array of important events & developments, such as groundbreaking ceremonies, plant inaugurations, visits of foreign diplomats, dignitaries, tours of business delegations, meetings and seminars etc.,
Reviewing the performance of Sri City during the year, Mr. Ravindra Sannareddy, Founder Managing Director, Sri City commented, “Much like yesteryears, 2018 too has been an impressive year for us, and we thank all our clients who are partnering with us.The year began with a positive note of 14 companies preferring Sri City and signing memoranda of understanding (MOUs) with AP Government at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Partnership Summit held in February at Visakhapatnam.”
Acknowledging the excellent support and guidance from the State Government, Mr. Ravindra Sannareddy stated, “As a part of ‘ease of doing business’ initiatives of the State government,senior bureaucrats visited Sri City, reviewed the status and assured all supports. Also, we thank the AP Transport Department for setting up the camp office of Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) in Sri City.”
“We are looking forward to a great 2019 with even more events and activities,” Mr. Ravindra Sannareddy said.
Let’s have a cursory glance at what Sri City achieved during the year.
During the year, altogether over 20 new customers signed MOUs, at a committed total investments worth of Rs. 3826 crores. Seven new companies have kicked off the construction works of their plants, and 6 units went on stream marking the entry into operational phase. In their quest to cash-in on the emerging business opportunities in the country, some of the existing production units have ramped up facilities and expanded their production capacity.
On June 6, in recognition of his able leadership in developing the Sri City Special Economic Zone (SEZ) as one of the busiest SEZs in the country, The Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, vide an order, nominated Mr. Ravindra Sannareddy as a member of the committee constituted for studying the SEZ policy in the country.
Diplomats from Japan, Singapore, France, Belgium and Netherlands, and a host of high ranking officials from Central and state governments visited the industrial park and witnessed the growth. As an investor-friendly ecosystem has already been built at Sri City, 8 important high profile delegations, comprising of business leaders, industrialists etc., paid visits to Sri City during the year, and had discussions.
Dr. Wencai Zhang, Vice-President-1, Asian Development Bank (ADB), accompanied by a team of senior officials of the bank visited Sri City on July 20. During an interaction with CEOs of unit, he stated that under the scope of Visakhapatnam-Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC), a comprehensive governance framework will improve the infrastructure in the region.
In April, Mr. R. Muthuraj, a 1989 batch Indian Trade Service (ITS) officer took over as Development Commissioner (DC), Sri City Special Economic Zone (SEZ) from Dr. M.K Shanmuga Sundaram, IAS, DC, Madras Export Processing Zone (MEPZ), who was holding additional charge.
A large team of about 500 members of Jagruti Yatra, organised by JagritiSewaSansthan, a non-governmental organisation that promotes entrepreneurship among the youth visited Sri City on December 29.
In recognition of its commitment Sri City bagged the following awards from some of the prestigious organisations.
Ø ‘Asia’s Most Admired Brand’ and ‘Best CFO’ awards from Whitepage International & UK Asian Business Council.
Ø ‘Golden Globe Tigers Award for Excellence’ from World CSR Institute.
Ø ‘GEM Sustainability Certification’ award from ASSOCHAM.
Ø ‘Iconic Brand Rising Star’ award and ‘Inspirational Leaders’ award from World Consulting and Research Corporation (WCRC).
The Unicharm India Pvt., Ltd., one of the Japanese units in Sri City received the ‘Best Management’ Award from the Hon’ble Chief Minister of AP, in the May Day Celebrations held at Vijayawada.
The Sri City based Mondelez India and Kellogg’s India Pvt. Ltdbagged ‘Best Companies for women’ award in the ‘Best of the Best Conference-2018’, organised by the Chennai-based AVTAR Group, in association with US-based gender parity champion ‘Working Mother Media’, on November 1.
For training the youth with a definite focus on skill development and vocational training, the NTR Trust Skill Development Centre (SDC), opened a Technical Skill Development Institute in Sri City on August 18.
Sri City is home for world-class education too. On this front also, Sri City witnessed an important milestone. Krea University, backed by some of the best academics in the world and the top industrialists in India was formally launched by the Hon’ble Vice President of India Mr. M. Venkaiah Naidu, at New Delhi on November 18.
On the medical services front, Chennai based SIMS (SRM Institutes for Medical Science) Hospital signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Sri City on January 4, for offering healthcare solutions at Sri City.
As a significant boost to postal financial services, the postal department introduced Core Banking Solutions (CBS)in Sri City post office with effect from October 31.
During the year Senior executives of Sri City visited China, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia for taking part in the seminars/conferences/shows, as part of marketing efforts.
Throughout the year, with the able assistance of Sri City HR Cell, several companies conducted job melas, both at Sri City and also at different towns in the state and recruited youngsters for jobs.
On the corporate social responsibility (CSR) front too, the year witnessed much activity. The CSR programme of Sri City, as an integral part of its holistic region development plan, focuses on improving the vital social parameters like access to quality education, better health services, social infrastructure, livelihood options etc., Throughout the year, through Sri City Foundation, Sri City extended services in the following areas.
Regular medical services at SIMS Medical Centre and Sankara Netryalaya located in Sri City,
• Offering Dialysis, ECG, lab and radiology and other diagnostic services at a nominal fees,
• Free dental screening camps were conducted by the Care International Dental Centre in different schools in the neighbouring villages, and more than 750 students have undergone tests.
• Involving all the stakeholders in the ‘Swatchhta Hi Seva’ programme for keeping the campus ‘clean & green’,
• Maintenance of roads and drinking water supply to villages,
• Arranged health check, distribution of books and study material for students,
• Assisted District Public Health department in the eradication of mosquitoes,
